Taos is easily one of the most stunning locations in all of New Mexico. From the beautiful sweeping landscapes and mountains to the unique architecture and culture, it is easy to see why so many choose to call Taos home. However, the city also has some of the highest concentrations of indoor radon in the entire state.
Taos and the rest of Taos County have been designated by the EPA as being in Radon Zone 1. This means that the average reported levels of indoor radon indicate a high potential for exposure. This is due in part to its geological makeup and highly permeable clay soil which allows radon to pass through more easily. As such, if you are purchasing a home or commercial property in Taos, is critical you have it tested and treated for radon.
